Rain Coast Choir is a non-auditioned, 5-part Rock/Pop choir based in East Vancouver, BC and led by Joline Baylis, a singer-songwriter, recording artist and vocal coach. We are a warm and vibrant community built on respect, support, and of course our love of group singing!
We create fine-tuned vocal arrangements of classic songs and current favourites. Over the years, we’ve sung songs by David Bowie, The Tragically Hip, Fiona Apple, The Beach Boys, Neil Young, Bahamas, Fleetwood Mac, Bruce Springsteen and more! All songs are learned by ear with lyrics sheets and practice tracks provided... no need to read music notation, and no prior choir experience necessary!
We are dedicated to supporting our Songbirds in their vocal and creative goals and development. We provide opportunities for our singers to step into the spotlight and perform solo and small group ensemble pieces at our end-of-season performances.
We love collaborating with artists here in Vancouver, and we have had the pleasure of performing with Logan and Nathan, Daughter of the Moon, Joshua Wood, Monica Lee and Jack Garton, among others.

We are excited to finally be back to a full-length season this Spring!
This season we will focus on tuning in with ourselves and with the group as a whole. We will dive deeper into exploring our voices, and we will also experiment with new ways to listen to each other and sing together in a cohesive, intentional way.
We will sing songs by Neil Young, Elton John, Lord Huron, and more! The new season starts Wednesday, February 8th and we are welcoming new members. We'd love for you to join us!
-
We will host a performance at the end of the season to share our songs with our friends and families (provided we feel it is safe to do so, and there are no provinicial mandates prohibiting us). The tentative show date is Saturday, May 27th (to be confirmed).
The theme of the show will be an ode to the spirit of adventure and wanderlust, and a reflection on the comfort and importance of home. We will sing songs about travel and homecoming, including tunes by Neil Young, Elton John, Lord Huron and more!
We will be featuring a few of our own talented singers performing curated "Spotlight Songs" throughout the show. These will be an opportunity for members to step into the spotlight and perform solo or small group ensemble pieces of their choosing.
If you are a musician, songwriter with a story to tell, or would just like to get together with a few fellow Songbirds and prepare something special to sing, this will be your chance to shine!
We encourage you to choose songs that express themes of travel and homecoming to fit with the tone of the end-of-season performance.
You will have an opportunity to indicate your interest in performing when you complete the registration form.

We are currently welcoming new members for the Spring 2023 Season. All skill levels and backgrounds are welcome.
Members are invited to be engaged in and committed to developing their vocal and musical abilities. Joline Baylis, the choir's Director and a professional Vocal Coach, is passionate about providing the specific support that each singer needs in order to build confidence and skill. Members are encouraged to follow the guidance provided as we work throughout the Season.
You will also be supported by our dedicated Section Leaders, who are there to help answer questions, foster connection within your section, and coordinate section practices throughout the season.
In order to be able to sing as many songs as we can this season, we would like to make the best use of the time we have. One way to accomplish this is for singers to learn their parts to the songs on their own to the best of their ability, using the practice tracks and lyrics provided. This allows us to focus on crafting and fine-tuning the choir's sound during our rehearsal time.
We spend each term working towards a concert at the end of the season, so it is important for members to be up-to-speed with the material as we go. Singers are encouraged to consider the choir a weekly commitment for the duration of the season. This helps create a cohesive group and allows each member to get the most out of the Rain Coast Choir experience!
