Rain Coast Choir is a non-auditioned, 5-part Rock/Pop choir based in East Vancouver, BC and led by Joline Baylis, a singer-songwriter, recording artist and vocal coach. We are a warm and vibrant community built on respect, support, and of course our love of group singing!
We create fine-tuned vocal arrangements of classic songs and current favourites. Over the years, we’ve sung songs by David Bowie, The Tragically Hip, Fiona Apple, The Beach Boys, Neil Young, Bahamas, Fleetwood Mac, Bruce Springsteen and more! All songs are learned by ear with lyrics sheets and practice tracks provided... no need to read music notation, and no prior choir experience necessary! If you can sing in tune, you can learn to sing with others.
We are dedicated to supporting our Songbirds in their vocal and creative goals and development. We aim provide opportunities for our singers to explore singing and performance, whether by stepping into the spotlight at our end-of-season performances, or taking the stage at a Rain Coast Choir open mic.
We love collaborating with artists here in Vancouver, and we have had the pleasure of performing with Logan and Nathan, Daughter of the Moon, Joshua Wood, Monica Lee and Jack Garton, among others.

Change is in the air! We’ve got some exciting plans for the Fall 2023 season.
New home and longer rehearsals
We will be moving into a brand new rehearsal space at 411 Seniors Centre Society. The new space is centrally located at 3502 Fraser St. It’s close to major transit routes and has free street parking nearby.
We will also be extending the length of our rehearsals to allow for 2 hours of singing. This gives us the equivalent of 3 extra rehearsals throughout the season! We’ll be able to dig deep into our songs and take the time we need to accomplish our goals each week.Winter showcase double-bill with Kingsgate Chorus
Our winter showcase will be a joint show with Kingsgate Chorus, and will take place at the iconic Rio Theatre on Wednesday, Dec. 13th. This choir double-bill will be a first for us and we are extremely excited to share the evening with another fabulous East Van choir!Rain Coast Choir open mic
We are planning to host our first Rain Coast Choir open mic this season. We’ll be taking a hiatus from our Spotlight program this season, but fear not! You will still have an opportunity to perform for a supportive audience of your fellow songbirds. Plans are in the works to put on an open mic for our singers to share their talents, practice performance skills and connect with the Rain Coast Choir community.
The focus of our Fall 2023 season will be on stepping into greater confidence and exploring a wider variety of options for how we sing together.
We will build on the foundation of listening to each other and singing comfortably, and we’ll explore ways to achieve greater stability and volume without sacrificing tone and sensitivity. We will incorporate rhythmic elements into our repertoire, and explore ways to elevate our overall sound and blend as a choir.
We will sing songs by Spoon, Langhorne Slim and the Law, Joy Oladokun and more!

We are currently welcoming new members for the Fall 2023 Season. All skill levels and backgrounds are welcome. As long as you can sing in tune, we’ll teach you the rest!
Members are invited to be engaged in and committed to developing their vocal and musical abilities. Joline Baylis, the choir's director and a professional vocal coach, is passionate about providing the specific support that each singer needs in order to build confidence and skill. Members are encouraged to follow the guidance provided as we work throughout the season.
You will also be supported by our dedicated section leaders, who are there to help answer questions, foster connection within your section, and coordinate section practices throughout the season.
In order to be able to sing as many songs as we can this season, we would like to make the best use of the time we have. One way to accomplish this is for singers to learn their parts to the songs on their own to the best of their ability, using the practice tracks and lyrics provided. This allows us to focus on crafting and fine-tuning the choir's sound during our rehearsal time.
We spend each term working towards a concert at the end of the season, so it is important for members to be up-to-speed with the material as we go. Singers are encouraged to consider the choir a weekly commitment for the duration of the season. This helps create a cohesive group and allows each member to get the most out of the Rain Coast Choir experience!
