SHOWCASE VOLUNTEER SIGN-UP
Rain Coast Choir encourages an all-hands-on-deck approach on the day of the showcase performance to ensure the event runs smoothly. Many hands make light work, and all members are expected to serve in support of the vision to help it all come together!
Important note - for our Spotlight Showcase, the venue is requiring us to load in and set up the evening before on Friday, Dec. 6th. We will need some help to load risers into the venue, and to help set up chairs on Friday evening. We will also need folks to help pack up the chairs before we leave the venue after the show on Saturday.
In addition to this, there are

Whether you would like to lead a song or you are interested in being part of a group ensemble, please sign up as a Spotlight candidate by filling out the form below. This will ensure you receive all important communications and updates as we prepare for auditions. All spotlight vocalists must be registered to participate in the Fall 2024 choir season in order to audition. Instrumental accompaniment sourced outside of the choir is permitted. You can register for the Fall 2024 season here.

Spotlight songs will be selected through a live audition process, which will take place on Wednesday, August 28th from 7:00-9:30pm at Soundhouse Studios (33 W 8th Ave). Auditions will be before a small panel made up of friends of Rain Coast Choir.
To audition, please select a song to present, and prepare to sing it through in its entirety. We recommend selecting a song that you connect with, and that you feel comfortable and confident singing in your vocal range. Please avoid selecting a song with overtly violent, profane, or sexual lyrics, as we do welcome younger folks in the audience at our end of season showcase.
We invite solo singers and small group ensembles to audition. All spotlight songs should be presented with live accompaniment at the audition. Ideally you will present your song as you plan to perform it, with harmonies prepared prior to the audition if possible. If this is not possible, a singer is permitted to audition alone for a planned group piece if they shall be the lead, under the assumption that they will recruit their backup vocalists from the choir within the first two weeks of the season.
We understand that the audition process is vulnerable. We are here to support you! The audition process is in place to assess your readiness and commitment to preparing a piece to share, and you will not be assessed with an expectation of a "perfect" performance at this stage.

While we are always thrilled to see one of our Songbirds step into the spotlight for a powerful solo performance, we also love to see our community come together to create beautiful collaborations!
Would you like to lead a song and invite other singers to harmonize with you? Or perhaps you don’t feel quite ready to lead a song, but you would like to participate in a small group in a supportive capacity. Or, maybe you’d like to contribute your talents as an instrumentalist for our Spotlight singers.
We will be creating a contact list, which will be circulated amongst Spotlight candidates to help you connect and work on your songs in preparation for your audition. You can opt in to this shared contact list when you sign up as a Spotlight candidate, either in a lead or support role.

Upon acceptance as a Spotlight performer, your performance piece should be considered an independent study. While there will be a small number of opportunities to present your piece in front of the Spotlight group and receive feedback from your peers, this should not be considered your primary time to prepare. You will be expected to rehearse independently without facilitation throughout the season in order to be reasonably prepared for the December showcase.
We look forward to hearing the songs you select, and can’t wait to feature our amazing Songbirds for another fantastic Spotlight season!
